What does it mean to follow Jesus?

God Loves You
God hasn’t just said He loves you but has shown how much He loves you by sending His Son to live the perfect life you could not live and die in your place.

For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.
John 3:16

All are Sinners
God is perfect and deserves to be honoured, but we have all failed to live as we should. We are all sinners.

For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God
Romans 3:23

As it is written: There is no one righteous, not even one
Romans 3:10

God’s Plan to Save Us
We all deserve to die and be cut off from God because we have sinned – but God had a plan! He sent His Son as a free gift for us, so that all who believe and accept His Son, can be forgiven! God’s Son is Jesus Christ, who lived, died, and was raised to life for you. God has made a way for you to know Him, and this “way” is through Jesus.

For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.
Romans 6:23

Yet to all who did receive him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God
John 1:12

For what I received I passed on to you as of first importance: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures
1 Corinthians 15:3-4

Your Response
When we realize we have sinned against God, the next step is to apologize. Confess to God that you have wronged him, and trust that God has forgiven you and will save you from the consequences of your sins because of what his Son, Jesus, has done.

If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.
1 John 1:9

For, “Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.”
Romans 10:13

God Won’t Let You Go
God is not like a person who will only love you if you behave well. God knows you are not perfect. God wants you to trust that He is holding you tighter than you could possibly hold Him. God is faithful. He has accepted you as His child, and He will never stop loving and caring for you.

If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.
Romans 10:9
